{"id":32,"date":"2012-05-19T21:07:29","date_gmt":"2012-05-19T20:07:29","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-02-05T11:16:19","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T11:16:19","slug":"helen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hartleyvoices.local\/our-singers\/helen","title":{"rendered":"Helen, mezzo-soprano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-682 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hartleyvoices.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Helen-Bruce-Headshot-Hartley-Voices-e1462819267784-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"Helen mezzo-soprano opera singer Hartley Voices\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><br \/>\nHelen is a stunningly talented mezzo-soprano opera singer.&nbsp; She studied with Leah Marian-Jones at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, receiving Leverhulme scholarship to attend the MA Opera course.<\/p>\n<p>She previously studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the Mmus postgraduate vocal studies course. During her time there, she successfully auditioned for the Opera Associates and Outside Engagements programmes offered by the conservatoire and performed in many concerts, recordings and operas as a result.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nBnQ4dG4now?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" frameborder=\"1\" scrolling=\"no\" align=\"left\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>Prior to her Masters at GSMD, she read Music at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with honours. At Edinburgh she won the Donald Francis Tovey award for performance, the Eileen Cameron Music award for outstanding contribution to the musical life of Edinburgh as well as the Bucher-Fraser scholarship for postgraduate study, all awarded by the University. She has performed lead roles in many operas ranging from Madame Popova The Bear (Mahogony Opera) under the baton of Oliver Gooch, directed by Freddie Wake-Walker, to Hansel (Orchestra of the Royal Borough) under the baton of Paul Wingfield. She performed with Opera South East as Dido and since then has been asked to sing for the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus, Thursford Christmas spectacular and has performed as the guest soloist for Sunderland football club at the Stadium of Light.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartleyvoices.co.uk\/live-performances\/classic-opera\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1841 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hartleyvoices.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/mezzo-soprano-opera-singer-300x298.png\" alt=\"Helen, mezzo-soprano opera singer for hire\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"http:\/\/hartleyvoices.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/mezzo-soprano-opera-singer-300x298.png 300w, http:\/\/hartleyvoices.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/mezzo-soprano-opera-singer-150x150.png 150w, http:\/\/hartleyvoices.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/mezzo-soprano-opera-singer.png 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Operatic work includes the role of Witch Hansel and Gretel (Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra) Orlofsky Die Fledermaus (Aquarian Opera), Carmen (Ferrier Opera), Sorceress Dido and Aeneas (Opera&#8217;r Ddraig), Marcellina Le Nozze di Figaro (RWCMD production at the Wales Millennium Centre, directed by Harry Fehr) and Mercedes Carmen (St Magnus Festival). Recent work includes Cherubino Marriage of Figaro (Winterbourne Opera) and street chorus\/soloist in Bernstein&#8217;s Mass for the 2012 Proms and the role of Mrs Chin\/Old Crone Night at the Chinese
